What is a Biblical Counselor? Is Biblical Counseling right for me? What if I am not a Christian? If you are asking yourself any of those questions, hopefully, the following information will provide you with some answers.
What is Biblical Counseling?
In short, I believe a Biblical Counselor is a Christian who seeks to understand and compassionately relate to others and help those in need to process what is happening in their life and circumstances through the truths of God. In order to do this, we’ll journey together to carefully, prayerfully, and thoughtfully seek to apply the truths found in Scripture to your unique situation.
The longer explanation, Biblical counseling is a Christ-centered, disciple-making, one-another ministry directed towards the fulfillment of both the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). It is the Gospel-driven, Word-centered, Holy Spirit-empowered act of compassionately utilizing the lens of Scripture to assist others in the interpretation of all aspects of life, and training others in the application of God’s true assessment about who He is and who they are in Christ to the areas of their thinking, being, and doing that are out of alignment with those truths.
“Margie is highly empathetic and committed to Biblical principles to guide her counsel [through] clarity of thought, submission to Scripture, and sensitivity towards the counselee.”
Pastor Lew Miller, Grace Community Evangelical Free Church
“After fellowshipping with Margie, clarity replaces my murky justifications and I remember, more than who I am, who He is.
“God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16b, KJV).””
Mrs. Alexandra Saint Rosner
Is Biblical Counseling only for Christians?
No, Biblical Counseling is not only for Christians. However, my approach to counseling is best described as “biblical counseling” since my counseling will be guided by biblical principles. Because I hold the Bible to be sufficient to guide Christians in every area of life and activity, I believe it holds the fundamental answers for every kind of problem in living. I am partial to this approach but recognize there are other approaches to counseling. If at any time you find this approach is not what you are seeking, please inform me that we may discuss other resources available to you in the area.
Next Steps
The first step, if you are interested to learn more and discover if we might be a good “trekking team,” is to click the link below and schedule your free 30 minute consultation.
The second step, if you find we are compatible, is to discern where we are trekking out from! Our first full meeting will be Orientation and Discovery. During this meeting we’ll spend some time getting to know each other. You will answer a series of discovery questions that will assist us in the orienteering process. We cannot know what path to take or how to move forward until we know where we are setting out from!
I look forward to hearing from you and to the possibility of “traveling trails and trials together.”
